About Tangla

Tangla is a town situated in Udalguri district of Assam. It is a culturally developed place. Tangla was earlier a part of the Darrang district. During that time Tangla was a centre of business of jute, beetle nut and rice etc. However, because of the agitation of the Bodos the glory of the place gradually decreased. Tangla was later made a town committee of Udalguri district.

Demography of Tangla

According to 2001 India census the population of Tangla was 17,313. The male population is 54% and female population is 46%. The average literacy rate is 76%. The literacy rate of male is 81% and that of the female is 70%. Tangla is a culturally developed place. There are people of different ethnicity and culture of different communities dwelling in Tangla. The main language spoken in Tangla is Assamese. Tangla is also inhabited by Bodos, Rabhas, Nepali, Bangla and tea tribes.

Economy of Tangla

Agriculture is the main source of economy of Tangla. Jute, rice, beetle nut etc are grown with prominence in Tangla. Tangla region has many tea gardens. Income of the town comes from tea gardens as well.

Tangla region has many tea gardens. The lush greenery of the tea gardens serve as the main place of tourism in Tangla. The nearest tourist spots to Tangla are Mangaldoi, Rangia, Nalbari and Guwahati.
